Why We Do This Work - Child Pornography's True Nature and Scope

  1. A 2005 CDC-funded study of over 17,000 Kaiser Permanente Health Plan members showed:
    • 25% of girls are molested, and
    • 16% of boys are molested in the United States today.
  2. According to the Department of Justice, 96% of child molesters are family members or a trusted person in the child's life.
    • Only 4% are strangers.
  3. Only 5-8% of child sexual abuse cases are ever reported to authorities, according to a 2006 meta-analysis entitled "How do Sexually Abused Children Disclose? Towards an Evidence-Based Approach to Practice".
  4. A Federal Bureau of Prisons study showed 85% of federally incarcerated child pornography possessors admitted contact sex crimes against children.
    • On average, these offenders had 30.5 victims each.
    • Those jailed for child molestation "only" had 9.5 victims each on average.
  5. Child pornography is most often produced in the home by individuals; all that is needed is digital recording equipment. Due to its technological affluence and relatively lax ISP hosting laws, America is estimated to be the #1 producer and hoster of child pornography in the world:
    • 55% of child pornography in the world is produced here,
    • 62% of child pornography is hosted here.
  6. 6.5 million new child abuse crime scene images have been created in the last five years, according to law enforcement sources.
    • In 2003, only 3,600 child pornography photos had been identified by law enforcement.
  7. A government-funded study shows that most American child pornography offenders are white and are or were married, and many are college-educated - children are seldom believed when reporting this type of perpetrator.
    • 91% of child pornography offenders are white,
    • 59% are or were married,
    • 41% are college educated.
  8. Children as young as newborn infants are now being sodomized, raped, tortured and killed for the pleasure of child pornography offenders.
  9. Law enforcement knows where hundreds of thousands of active American child sex offenders are right now,
    • But they only have the resources and agents to purse 2% of known cases.
  10. American children are desperately crying out to be rescued. We can rescue them now:
"When I was a little girl, and when I was being photographed and raped I used to try to send messages with my eyes down the lens and hoped that one day a good person might see and come to help us."
